Consistent training over time is
the key to improvement in triathlon. Too often athletes bounce between bursts
of hard training following by burn out. I place great emphasis on setting a
realistic plan and, when necessary, being flexible without losing momentum.
Execution is the next
key. Great training to become fit is clearly important to race to one’s
potential. However, it can be for naught if one does not execute on race day.
Helping athletes devise a race plan is paramount to ensure success on race day.
Finally, the foundation to achieving both consistency and
execution is nutrition. Athletes
often neglect good nutrition because they are not aware of the consequences of
poor nutrition or simply because they don’t know what foods and supplements to
use during training and race day.
